FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Author, Lena Arnold, Shares with us Her Twelve-Year Struggle with Infertility in Her Newly-Released Book, For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility
Atl.,
May 27, 2008 - The false assumption today, is, if a woman cannot have
children, it must not be God's will for her and that there must be some
curse upon her life. Lena Arnold, in her book, For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility,
dispels these misconceptions from her own personal experience. In her
own struggle to have children, she takes us on her journey of
heartache, and much tears, identifying with Hannah in the Scriptures,
as she bargains with God for a child.
Through exercising their faith in God, Lena and her husband, both
discover the true will of God for their lives, knowing that they were
not alone during this difficult time in their lives.
"This book is distinctive
in that it is the only book of its kind that deals with infertility
from both a minority and faith based perspective. Many couples in both
these communities are ashamed to admit that their bodies have failed
them. As an American of African descent we still live with the
historical and cultural myths associated with fertility. Christians on
the other hand, deal with ethical issues relative to assisted
reproductive technology that often hinder them from seeking treatment. For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility dispels many of these horrendous misconceptions, through personal insight, reflection, and God given synergy."
--From the Foreword by Dr. Carolyn L. Gordon, PhD., Div
Not only is this book for those who are struggling with infertility,
but as Lena Arnold says, "I believe that anyone who has a dream can
benefit from this book. It teaches that faith can help you wait as you
believe, no matter how long it takes."
"The
thing we regret the most," added her husband, Horace Arnold, "is
waiting so long to seek help because the longer we waited, the longer
other dreams got pushed aside during the waiting process. Now we
realize there was so much more we could have accomplished while we were
childless. We spent so much time focusing on the problem that we forgot
to live. Now we counsel other couples to seek help early. Find out what
is wrong, make some clear decisions, regain control of your life, and
get down to the business of living life to the fullest."
Lena Arnold is
a respected consultant on family and youth issues and has spent the
last 20 years working tirelessly on their behalf. She is primarily
responsible for helping non-profits and businesses achieve
organizational goals through the creation of effective development
strategies. As a graduate of the Wright State University School of
Liberal Arts, she began her career as a journalist, and has written for
several periodicals within the Dayton community where she currently
resides. For This Child We Prayed represents
her second foray into the world of professional book publishing. The
first being a joint effort with InSCRIBEd Inspirations, entitled, Free to Fly: Reflections on Womanhood. Lena is consistently sought out as a motivational speaker for her dynamic public speaking abilities.
