Poets, in the Powerful Book Louisa, by Richard
Emmel
Atl.,
January 10, 2008 -- Louisa, the powerful,
yet moving fictional story of the life of African-American
poet, Phillis Wheatley, written by author, Richard Emmel, is
an encouragement to all, that no matter how bad you may
think your situation, you can overcome and become an
achiever.
Travel with Louisa, whose real name is Farih
Morowa, daughter of Bewnu, chief of the Fulani, as she is
forced to leave her beloved family and homeland to become a
slave in colonial America . Although she endured much sorrow
and loneliness, Farih, whose name was changed to Louisa
Wheatley, was placed in a family where she had the
opportunity of learning to speak, read, and write English, a
privilege that was denied slaves at that time. God’s hands
were upon her. Her real name, Farih Morowa, meaning “Gifted
with Imagination” proved to be a true translation because
Louisa turned out to become one of America’s greatest poets
(and this was before obtaining her freedom). Her fame
granted her access to such powerful people as George
Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock.
Louisa, although not a completely accurate
depiction of Phillis Wheatley’s life, is a very touching
story, and will inspire anyone to use their God-given
talents to reach great heights and impact the world.
Louisa is a book for all ages and should be added
to your home and school library.

Richard Emmel, an elementary principal
and teacher for thirty-seven years, has a doctorate in
education from the University of Mississippi . Mr. Emmel and
his wife, Sharon, of forty-one years, live near Little Rock
, Arkansas . The Lord has blessed them with three sons. When
not writing or reading, Mr. Emmel is woodworking or out in
his garden. Both he and his wife enjoy taking weekend trips
to the many beautiful places around Little Rock .
Louisa is Mr. Emmel’s first novel, and he hopes
that you will come away after reading this book with a
newfound love of learning, and for reading and writing, in
particular.
